The 1st International Seminar on Earth Sciences and Technology (ISEST) marked the successful inauguration of our seminar series, held on 8-9 December 2021 in the vibrant academic city of Bandung, West Java. Proudly hosted by the esteemed Faculty of Earth Sciences and Technology at the Institut Teknologi Bandung (FITB-ITB), this pioneering event was convened under the foundational theme, “Earth Sciences and Technology for Sustainable Development.” This theme established the core mission of ISEST from its very beginning: to forge an international platform where cutting-edge scientific research and technological innovation are synergized to address the world’s most critical sustainability challenges, setting a high precedent for all seminars to follow.

The scientific program of the inaugural ISEST was meticulously structured around four interconnected sub-topics that delved deep into the main theme. Sessions on Natural Resources explored the sustainable exploration and management of Earth’s materials, while Earth Data Sciences highlighted the transformative power of big data and computational modeling in understanding our planet. The seminar also addressed urgent societal risks through discussions on Geo-hazard and Environment, and tackled one of the most significant challenges of our time through the study of the Climate System. Together, these pillars fostered a rich, multi-disciplinary dialogue, successfully bringing together progressive research that explored our world through an integrated and holistic lens.

The valuable insights and vibrant scientific discussions from ISEST 2021 have been preserved to create a lasting legacy and a significant contribution to the scientific community. The culmination of the innovative research presented at our inaugural seminar has been formally compiled into a collection of scholarly publications. We invite you to explore this archive to gain a deeper understanding of the groundbreaking work that defined our first event and set the stage for future collaborations.
